The award is named in honour of acclaimed journalist John Newfong, in recognition of his contribution to journalism in Australia. John Newfong was a journalist, media advisor, consultant and lecturer in communication.
We dedicate this award and pay tribute to this remarkable man and the foundations he laid for future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers to pursue careers in the media. He was truly a hero of the 60’s and 70’s.
